Earl Grey Wrap

Following the success of my knit Coffee Shop Wrap in 2016, the first order of business was to give some love to my hookers and come up with a crochet version - the Tea House Wrap. Now with the launch of my knit Java Wrap, another striped triangle wrap, I've decided to release a crochet version right along side it. Introducing the Earl Grey Wrap!

While I initially meant to create something super similar to the Tea House Wrap, I did stray a bit from the original design. I kept the hdc, random eyelet rows, and uneven striping details, but instead I chose to mix it up and give the Earl Grey Wrap a personality of its own. Switching up the construction from a top down shawl to a triangle worked from side to side creates a totally different striping effect and slightly asymmetric shape that makes the wrap fresh and modern.

This lightweight triangle wrap is worked up in Lion Brand Mandala Baby and 24/7 Cotton yarns. I love the way the Mandala fades using simple hdc rows and the 24/7 Cotton breaks it up with eyelet rows.

To get started right away, check out the free pattern below. As always you can purchase a printable PDF without ads here, or you can purchase the full yarn kit from Lion Brand here.

Whether you wear it draped over your shoulders like a traditional shawl or wrapped in the front like a scarf, the Earl Grey Wrap makes a lovely statement and can be worked up in any combination of one skein of Mandala, Mandala Baby, or Cupcake along with two skeins of 24/7 Cotton. There are so many possibilities with all of these colorways and I can't wait to see what combos you all come up with!

This is an easy level crochet pattern and the techniques involved are half double crochet, skipping sts, working into chain spaces, and changing colors.

To make tassels, cut ninety 10”/25cm lengths and six 18”/46cm lengths of color B. Divide the 10”/25cm lengths into 3 groups of 30. Tie each bundle at the middle point with one of the 18”/46cm lengths. Fold each bundle in half so that the tie is at the tip of the loop created with the fold. Tie crosswise around each folded bundle about 1⁄2”/1.25cm below top of fold with remaining 18”/46cm lengths. Wrap the tails of the ties around and around the bundles and then thread them inside and down the middle of the bundles with a tapestry needle. Tie the tops of the tassels onto the 3 corners of the wrap and knot to secure. Thread the tails inside and down the middle of the tassels using a tapestry needle. Trim tassels to desired length.
