Frozen Lake Infinity Scarf

Update (3/19/18): The Frozen Lake Infinity Scarf is now available in Spanish! Please find the free Spanish pattern at the bottom of this post. Special thanks to Marta from HarperHook for the translation :)

As part of the Yarn Heroes campaign I'm a part of with Lion Brand Yarn this holiday season, I've designed a free pattern as an incentive for others to use it to make a cozy knit to donate to a charity of their choice. Instructions for this pattern are below, or you can purchase an ad-free, printable PDF here

The pattern I've designed is called the Frozen Lake Infinity Scarf and it is made using Lion Brand Wool-Ease Tonal (which since this post has been discontinued). You can wear it just draped open to add an extra layer to the chest or double it up to keep your neck and head extra warm. The design was inspired by the feeling of ice skating on a lake as a child. That sensation of freedom and excitement and happiness in the cold air. Twirling in circles and laughing and gliding. That image just seemed like such a cheerful, innocent idea and I wanted the scarf to reflect that. I added a sprinkling of bobbles on it for extra pops of joy and cozy and to represent snowballs and big fluffy snowflakes.

MATERIALS:

4 skeins Lion Brand Wool-Ease Tonal or approx. 496yds/452m of another bulky weight, cat. 5 yarn
Size US L11 (8mm) crochet hook
Stitch marker or scrap yarn
Tapestry needle

FINISHED SIZE:

Width: 12”/30.5cm
Circumference: 62”/157.5cm

GAUGE:

8.5 sts + 8 rows = 4”/10cm in half double crochet

ABBREVIATIONS:

*All Two of Wands patterns are written in standard US terms*

Ch - chain
Hdc - half double crochet
MB - make bobble
Rep - repeat
RS - right side
Sc - single crochet
Sl st - slip stitch
St(s) - stitch(es)

STITCH EXPLANATION:

MB (Make Bobble) – Yarn over, insert hook into stitch to be worked, draw up a loop, yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on hook (2 loops on hook remain). Yarn over, insert hook into same stitch, draw up a loop, yarn over, pull through first 2 loops on hook (3 loops on hook remain). Repeat 3 more times for a total of 5 sts worked into the same st (6 loops on hook). Yarn over and pull through all loops on hook. When working bobble at beginning of row, the ch 3 counts as the first of the 5 sts, so only 4 more need to be worked for a total of 5 loops on hook before yarning over and drawing through all loops.

Note: Pattern is work in joined rounds that are turned at the end of each round. Use a stitch marker to keep track of beginning of each round.

Ch 130. Being careful not to twist sts, sl st to first ch to join in the round.

SPANISH VERSION:

Materiales:

4 ovillos Lion Brand Wool-Ease Tonal o aprox. 496yds/452m de otra lana gruesa, categoría 5.
Aguja de crochet de 8 mm (L11 en sistema US)
Marcadores o sobrantre de lana
Aguja lanera

Tamaño Terminado:

Ancho: 12”/30,5cm
Circunferencia: 62”/157,5cm

Muestra:

8,5 puntos + 8 filas = 4”/10cm en punto medio alto

Abreviaturas:

Cad - Cadeneta
Pma - Punto medio alto
Bb - Punto burbuja
Rep - Repetir
LD - Lado derecho
Pb - Punto bajo
Pr - Punto raso
P(s) - Punto(s)
