Hue + Me: On Track Triangle Wrap

The classic top down triangle wrap - one of my absolute favorite pieces to design! I love the fact that this type of accessory can really serve as a canvas to apply all different kinds of textures and colorwork. I love that you get to watch it grow row by row and can really make it any size you prefer by added more or less rows. I love the versatility of the final piece. The new On Track Triangle Wrap was the perfect vehicle to showcase both a beautiful color combo and a lovely stitch combo as well. Scroll down for the free pattern, purchase a printer-friendly PDF of the pattern here, or purchase the kit with all the Hue + Me yarn you’ll need here.

I’ve designed several top down triangle wraps over the course of my career and every time I set out to do a new one there is something comforting about it. While the general formula is the same - increasing at each end and at the center point - it’s always a new adventure to apply different stitch techniques and colors. The combination of something familiar paired with something challenging is my favorite type of project!

When building a color combo for a project, I love to mix warm and cool tones like I did here. Generally I find this works best (although there are always exceptions!) when I go with a combo that is predominantly warm or cool and then add in a pop of the opposite. For this combo I chose three cool tone neutrals and added the warm pop of color with Mustard and I just love the way the colors play together.

Aside from the color I chose to use both a subtle three-dimensional texture and an eyelet lace stitch to give this wrap a balance of chunkiness and negative space. It makes for a wrap that is cozy and drapey at the same time!

This is an easy level crochet pattern, and the techniques involved are half double crochet, slip stitches, creating and working into chain spaces, and changing colors.

Tassels:

Cut ninety 12”/30.5cm lengths and six 18”/46cm lengths of color A. Divide the 12”/30.5cm lengths into three groups of 30. Tie each bundle at the middle point with one of the 18”/46cm lengths. Fold each bundle in half so that the tie is at the tip of the loop created with the fold.

Tie crosswise around each folded bundle about 1”/2.5cm below the top of the fold with the remaining 18”/46cm lengths. Wrap the tails of the ties around and around the bundles and then thread them inside and down the middle of the bundles with a tapestry needle. Tie the tops of the tassels onto the three corners of the wrap and knot to secure. Thread the tails inside and down the middle of the tassels using a tapestry needle. Trim tassels to desired length.
