Although I love knitting and crochet equally, when it comes to bags, crochet will always have my heart. The dense, less-stretchy stitches make for sturdy totes that can look so chic when they’re given a modern silhouette using a simple stitch.

Single crochet is usually my go to when I want a super-structured, non-stretch bag. Worked up using a small hook for tight stitches, you don’t even need to line bags like this because they are thick enough as-is.

I absolutely adore a functional crochet tote, and they are also some of my most popular designs! They make such a great gift since you don’t need to make them fitted, and they are generally pretty quick to complete. Check out all of my other crochet bags here.

I’m usually interested in the oversized variety so I can carry along my latest project with other necessities, and I purposefully designed this one to be the perfect size to do just that! Meant to be like an oversized purse, the Huntington Carryall is the perfect companion for a day trip or carry-on travel bag.

You really can’t go wrong with any color combo in Hue + Me, so this could easily be worked up in any of them and look spectacular. It’s the perfect canvas to playfully show off your favorite shades or match them to school colors or any other inspo you can think of. Can’t decide on a combo? Check out this handy color theory guide to help you decide!

This is an easy level crochet pattern and the techniques involved are the single crochet, slip stitch, working into the back loops only, and working flat in back and forth rows and in the round.

Body:

Round 13: Sc around.

Rep round 13 until work measures 12”/30.5cm.

Extended sides:

Remove beginning of round marker. Lay bag flat and place markers 6.25”/16cm in from either side on both front and back (4 markers total). There should be approx. 5.5”/14cm centered between the markers on the front and back.

Next row: Sc to 3rd marker, turn.

Next row: Ch 1, sc to next marker, turn.

Rep last row until extended side measures 3”/7.5cm. Break yarn.

Rejoin yarn at marker where first row turned (bottom left corner of extended side).

Next row: Sc to 2nd marker, turn.

Next row: Ch 1, sc to next marker, turn.

Rep last row until extended side measures 3”/7.5cm. Break yarn.

Rejoin yarn at the inner right corner of either side and work 1 round of sc around entire top edge of bag, starting with 1 sc in each st of the top edge of the body, then 1 sc up each row of the next side edge, then 1 sc in each st of the top of the extended side, then 1 sc down each row of the next side edge, then 1 sc in each st of the top edge of the body on the other side, then 1 sc up each row of the next side edge, then 1 sc in each st of the top of the extended side, then 1 sc down each row of the next side edge, then sl st to join to the 1st sc of the round.

Secure and weave in all ends.

Handles:

With CC, join yarn at top right corner of one extended side. Ch 1 and sc across top edge of extended side, then ch 30, then (being careful not to twist ch) sc across top edge of other extended side, then ch 30, then sl st to join to 1st sc of round. Place marker for beginning of round.

Next 3 rounds: Sl st tbl around.

Secure and weave in all ends.
