From the moment I started Two of Wands, I’ve always tried to design for who I call the modern maker - someone interested in fashion forward, sophisticated projects that are generally quick to make and beginner to intermediate level. To make up for the simplicity, I like to play with scale to add some drama and substance. The Illusionist Infinity Scarf ticks all the modern maker boxes!

Volume is one of the biggest trends of the season across the board. Full length coats, long flowy dresses with high collars and long sleeves, and oversized accessories dominated the runways. The Illusionist Infinity Scarf emphasizes this trend with its large chunky ribs and grand scale silhouette.

In addition to volume, juxtaposition and high contrast pattern blocking were also spotted in numerous high end collections. With the contrasting, inverted ribs on the Illusionist Infinity Scarf, this cozy cowl will pair effortlessly with the hottest pieces for fall. I love how the two-tone colors pop in opposite directions on each side of this fabric, and it makes for a truly mesmerizing look when it’s all wrapped up around the neck.

Even though I’ve been designing for years now, there are certain techniques that have always been intimidating. One of those is brioche! It has taunted me for years with its squishy 3-D columns, but the wonky stitches it takes to get there have always felt unnecessarily difficult. I knew if it were too tricky for me, it wouldn’t be appropriate for a beginner or someone with more limited skills at all. That’s when I discovered brioche’s baby cousin - fisherman’s rib! This stitch is SO MUCH EASIER and it looks nearly identical. If you can knit and purl, you can make this scarf!

You really can’t go wrong with any color combo in Hue + Me, so this could easily be worked up in any of them and look spectacular. It’s the perfect canvas to playfully show off your favorite shades or match them to school colors or any other inspo you can think of. Can’t decide on a combo? This is an easy level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are knit and purl, knit 1 below and purl 1 below, k2tog through the back loop, and working in the round.

ABBREVIATIONS:

*All Two of Wands patterns are written in standard US terms

CO – cast on
K – knit
K1B– knit 1 below
K2tog tbl – knit 2 together through the back loop
P – purl
P1B – purl 1 below
Rep – repeat
Sl – slip
St(s) – stitch(es)

STITCH EXPLANATION:

Knit 1 below (K1B) – With yarn in back, insert the right needle from front to back into the “v” of the stitch 1 row below the current row and knit a stitch, allowing the current stitch to fall off of the left needle.

Purl 1 below (P1B) – With yarn in front, insert the right needle from back to front under the purl bump 1 row below the current row and purl a stitch, allowing the current stitch to fall off of the left needle.

Notes: Infinity scarf is worked in the round, alternating colors every row. For a seamless color change at the end of each round, leave the previous color at the front of the work and bring the new color to the back to begin the next round.

Designate a color A and color B. With color A, loosely CO 102 sts. Being careful not to twist sts, join in the round and place marker for beginning of round.

Round 1 (set up round): K.

Round 2: *K1B, P 1, rep from * to end of round.

Change to color B.

Round 3: *K 1, P1B, rep from * to end of round.

Rep rounds 2 and 3, alternating colors each round, until work measures 12”/30.5cm, ending with a round 3 in color B.

Bind off with color B as follows: *K2tog tbl, sl st purlwise back to left needle, rep from * around.

Secure and weave in all ends.
