Junior League Pullover
To say I’m obsessed with this latest design would be a massive understatement. The new Junior League Pullover has been a long time coming, and with the launch of Cottino I knew I had found the perfect yarn to bring it to life. This kiddo version of my top selling pattern, the Autumn League Pullover, has all of the classic details of the original and comes in sizes 2T-14. Scroll down for the free pattern, click here to purchase the printer-friendly PDF, or click here for the full yarn kit with pattern included.
The Junior League Pullover is the sixth pattern to join the League Series of patterns. Paving the way before this latest drop, we have:
Autumn League Pullover (released 2018)
Winter League Pullover (released 2020)
Summer League Cutoff (released 2021)
Spring League Sleeveless Hoodie (released 2022)
Baby League Onesie (released 2024)
The details that really define the League Series designs are the raglan sleeves and the criss-cross v-insert detail at the neck. The latter of the two is a nod to classic vintage athletic sweatshirts, where the little triangle was originally designed in the 1930s to absorb sweat add structural integrity to the garment to prevent the neckline from stretching out. Each of the designs also maintains a relaxed silhouette for that perfect lived-in appeal.
Just like the ALP, the new JLP is a crewneck raglan sweater that evokes memories of Friday night football games, crisp fall evenings, and a general sense of nostalgia. The doubled ribbed neckband, v-insert neck triangle, and side slit details give personality and add to the classic appeal of this sweatshirt-inspired wardrobe staple. Meant to be well-loved and well-worn, this sweater has the perfect broken-in relaxed fit and deep raglans that allow for chic comfort and wearable ease.
The original ALP is worked up using Lion Brand’s LB Collection Cotton Jeans. I love how this yarn works up to look like that perfect sweatshirt heather grey. When I launched Hue + Me in 2020, it inspired me to design a colder weather version of the ALP, and thus the Winter League Pullover was born. I then decided to make a whole series with a design for each season. I created the Summer League Cutoff with Lion Brand’s Comfy Cotton, which has unfortunately now been discontinued. It also had that soft sweatshirt vibe to it. Next up came the Spring League Sleeveless Hoodie shortly after I launched my second yarn, Color Theory. It was so fun to have two of the patterns in the series made with yarns I had developed! When River was born I wanted to make him something to match, so I designed the Baby League Onesie using the same yarn as the original ALP. It was around this time that Lion Brand and I started development on our third yarn, Cottino, and I knew I wanted to wait to make a kiddo sweater version until I could use it.
Fun fact: I actually chose the Cottino color Sweatshirt specifically for this project! I had the Junior League Pullover planned from the moment we started working on Cottino, and a marled grey color called “Sweatshirt” was imperative. The fabric this color creates is such a classic soft heather grey, that I know I will reach for it for all kinds of designs moving forward. Cottino is a cotton/wool blend, and the two different fibers can sometimes take dye differently. Some of the colors in the palette have a more obvious marl happening while in others it’s so subtle you almost can’t tell at all. Sweatshirt has the most marling, which was intentional so it would create the heathered fabric look.
I am so thrilled with the way the JLP turned out, from the yarn choice to all of the little details. The deep raglans create the cutest slouchy, relaxed look and I can confirm this sweater is so comfy River did not want to take it off, and he asks to wear it daily! I am going to have to knit one in every size so he always has one to reach for as he grows :)
This is an intermediate level knitting pattern and the techniques involved are the knit stitch, purl stitch, k2tog, ssk, m1r, m1l, traveling stitches, working flat and in the round, picking up and knitting stitches, and working a tubular bind off.

STITCH EXPLANATION:
Left Twist (LT): Worked at traveling stitch; slip two stitches, one at a time, knitwise to right needle, slip these stitches purlwise back to the left needle, knit through the back loop of the second stitch but do not remove from the left needle, then knit the two stitches together through the back loop and remove them from the left needle.
Right Twist (RT): Worked one stitch before traveling stitch; knit two stitches together but do not remove from the left needle, then knit into just the first stitch and remove both stitches from the left needle.
NOTES
PSweater is worked in the round from the top down. The yoke is first worked flat to allow for front neck shaping, then work is joined in the round for the remainder of the pattern. A faux seam is worked along the sides of the body to add structure. Neckband is picked up and knit from cast on edge. Pattern is written for nine sizes: 2T (3T, 4T, 5, 6) (8, 10, 12, 14).
